My name is Jamea Richmond-Edwards, and I am an artist. This blog is about me journeying through the art world, ya know, making a name for myself. I consider myself an amateur artist although I've been around for some time now....somewhat. Well, I've only been a "professional" artist the past 5 years. See in college, I was an Illusratrator in Jackson, MS, where I gained a slight buzz with my Norman Rockwell inspired drawings. I also illustrated a children's book, "Grandma's Biscuits" during my senior year in college. So several publications; I have it. However, working as a fiine artist has been somewhat of a struggle. I mean, I've been having a sort of identity crisis the past five years, trying to fine my voice amongst so many. But then one day, a somewhat friend invited me to a huge event in DC called Artomatic. I decided to enter the 1000 artist unjuried art exhibition although it seemed as if I was a very small fish in a big ass pond. When approaching the exhibition, I decided to put my heart in it, to stay true to myself and my subject and have a screw a profit idea embedded in my head. And I went for it. And guess what....it was great, The best I've ever created. I actually felt confident in the work I created. I found my voice, and I'm sharing it with the blog world.
peace.
